Please bring your current CADW or Historic Scotland membership cards with you when you visit in order to gain entry.

If you’re an English Heritage Member, entry to all English Heritage sites will be free, but you can book in advance. If you have recently joined English Heritage and haven’t received your membership cards yet or hold Membership to other qualifying organisations you can book tickets using the Associated Organisations tab below.

Tickets for general site entry are free for members. However please note for some events there will be a charge which will show in your ticket prices. Enter your membership number in the space below to access your member tickets.

More information about Clifford's Tower Off Peak Ticket tickets

Once you choose your arrival date, you’ll receive your booking confirmation by email. Just bring this with you on the day you visit, either on your mobile device or as a print out. The email will contain a barcode that our team will scan when you arrive.

The time shown is the earliest you can arrive, and you can arrive at any point within an hour of that time. You're then welcome to stay for as long as you like. You can book your advance ticket online up to 8.45am on the day you want to visit. For visits before 31 March, you can arrive anytime from the time slot you book, and stay as long as you like. For visits after 31 March, you will be booking a day ticket and will be able to arrive at any time within our opening hours, and stay for as long as you like.

Last admission is 30 minutes before the site closes.

Without a valid booking confirmation, we won't be able to let you in. If you are a Member, remember to bring your English Heritage Membership Card. The stunning panoramic views over Old York from the top of Clifford's Tower, make it the ideal starting point for any visit to the city. There's plenty to discover at this imposing tower standing proud on its high mound. It is almost all that remains of York Castle built by William the Conqueror, and has served as a prison and a royal mint in its time. Enjoy unrivalled views of York Minster and the city of York, with its medieval churches and buildings. In the distance you can see as far as the North York Moors.
