Join Tony Powell, lecturer on English Social History, who has researched and studied the Cistercian community of Rievaulx for the last twenty years, for a comprehensive walking tour of the Rievaulx Valley. Take in the broader environs of the Abbey and appreciate the size and complexity of the organisation needed when the Abbey precincts were at their peak. The tour will give a glimpse of the sheer scale of the working Abbey complex, including the locations of such important areas as the fishponds, the stone quarries, fresh water springs and the original course of the River Rye, as well as the central Abbey itself.
Light refreshments are included. This tour is graded as challenging, the tour will last approx. 2 hours and will involve a lot of walking, including some steep hills and uneven surfaces.
