Join Dr James Dilley for a flint knapping experience at the site of the country's only open flint mine - Grimes Graves.
Learn core and flake technology to make basic flake tools such as scrapers, piercers, saws and backed blades - tools that are found across prehistoric Britain - before moving onto more challenging areas such as bifacial flaking to make tools like axes. Then try out some other flintknapping techniques such as bi-polar percussion and pressure flaking to have a go at making arrowheads!
This event is graded as Moderate access as the site has uneven terrain with facilities located a short walk away down a slope. The workshop will take place outdoors so please dress appropriately for the weather and wear suitable footwear.
Refreshments in the form of a light lunch will be provided but please feel free to bring any additional refreshments you would like with you.
